Kawasaki Microelectronics CatsEye Block Diagram

CatsEye is a second generation Topaz chip that expands on the Topaz concept and adds a second MIPS32 24Kf, dual Gigabit Ethernet MAC's, and USB host and device capability. It includes the standard components such as a SafeNet SafeXcel security engine, an off-chip industry-standard Open Core Protocol (OCP) interface, and numerous other blocks including on-chip SRAM, a Flash-memory controller, a DMA interface, an Interrupt controller, and a Timer. It utilizes the Sonics SMX interface to provide higher performance interconnect to the major components.

In contrast to structured ASICs that use pre-defined "slices", CatsEye-based SoCs are designed and fabricated by K-Micro using a standard cell flow. The CatsEye-based approach is suitable for applications such as PON ONU/OLT, set-top boxes, printers, routers, and storage devices. CatsEye supports Linux and Micro Itron operating systems.
