Atmel

Atmel offers microcontrollers and microprocessors based on its proprietary 8- and 32-bit AVR, and ARM's Cortex-M3, ARM7, and ARM9. Over the previous year, the company introduced the ATtiny4/5/9/10 offered in a Flash microcontroller package measuring 2x2 mm. The picoPower 32-bit AVR UC3L lowers power consumption by up to 90 percent. This device runs on 165 µA/MHz in active mode, 600 nA with RTC running, and down to 9 nA with all clocks stopped.

Atmel QTouch Library and Atmel QTouch Studio expanded this year and now support all AVR microcontrollers. The company announced FPU (Floating point unit) technology that will be designed into selected AVR UC3 microcontrollers targeting applications in the automotive and industrial control markets.

The ATmega128RFA1, Atmel's first IEEE 802.15.4 compliant single-chip solution, combines an AVR microcontroller with a 2.4GHz RF transceiver. Atmel's BitCloud Profile Suite is a ready-to-use framework for rapid development of ZigBee-certified applications. The suite includes a complete set of fully functional reference implementations of the ZigBee Application Profiles for ZSE (ZigBee Smart Energy), ZBA (ZigBee Building Automation), and ZHA (ZigBee Home Automation).

The company's new SAM3S series of Cortex-M3 based Flash microcontrollers feature ODT (On-Die Termination), USB Device, SDIO, Parallel PIO signal capture, 12-bit ADC and DAC, 4 UARTs, dual I²C, I²S, timers, unique chip ID, and power and reset management.

Atmel introduced three new members to its SAM9 family of ARM926EJ-based embedded microprocessors. The SAM9M10 and SAM9M11 are multimedia enabled embedded microprocessors with integrated video decoder and 2D accelerator, offering DDR2, SDRAM, NOR Flash, and NAND Flash support. The SAM9M11 adds on-chip hardware accelerators with DMA support to enable high-speed data encryption and authentication of the transferred data or application via AES, TDES, SHA1, SHA256 and True Random Number Generator. The SAM9G46 includes the same security peripherals as the SAM9M11 and targets high performance and high-speed serial communication applications with a peripheral set including 10/100 Ethernet, HS SDIO/SD/MMC and HS USB 2.0 Host and Device.
