Freescale Semiconductor MPC55XX Block Diagram

The MPC55xx 32-bit embedded controller family targets automotive and industrial applications that require complex, real-time control. Applications include engine and transmission control, as well as advanced safety systems such as adaptive cruise control and anti-roll.

The MPC55xx is based on the Book E compliant e200z Power Architecture technology core running up to 200 MHz performance. This family delivers up to 3-Mbytes of embedded Flash; 2 enhanced timer processor units (eTPU), interrupt controller, eDMA, eQDACD, 4 DSPI modules, 5 controller area network (FlexCAN) modules and 2 eSCI modules, and Nexus Class 3+ real-time debug support. Additional optional features include Variable Length Encoding (VLE), Signal Processing Extension (SPE) and support for the FlexRay protocol. The MPC55xx offers a migration path from the MPC500 Family of 32-bit microcontrollers.

Hardware and software development tools are available from tools vendors providing compilers, debuggers and simulation development environments.
