The MPC8349E PowerQUICC II Pro Communications Processor family targets wired and wireless communications, consumer, industrial and imaging applications, such as Ethernet routers and switches, wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment, network attached storage (NAS) systems, home network appliances, industrial control equipment, and copiers, printers and other imaging systems. The MPC8349E family is a next-generation extension of the PowerQUICC II line. The MPC8349E integrates the enhanced e300 core built on Power Architecture technology and advanced features, such as DDR1/2 memory, Dual Gigabit Ethernet, Dual PCI and Dual Hi-Speed USB controllers. With clock speeds scaling to 667 MHz, the MPC8349E family offers the highest performing PowerQUICC II devices available. The MPC8349E is in production with CPU speeds up to 667 MHz with extended temperature (-40 to 105C) available at 533 MHz, 400 MHz and 266 MHz.

PowerQUICC II Pro processors are supported by CodeWarrior development tools from Freescale and by an ecosystem of development tools (MPC8349EA-MDS and MPC8349EA-MDS-PB), operating systems, and applications from third-party vendors. The MPC8343E QUICCstart Evaluation System provides a platform for developing network-enabled applications based on MPC8349E family processors. QUICCstart systems include the processor board, power supply, CodeWarrior USB TAP run control device, cables, and evaluation copies of CodeWarrior development software.

To speed time to market for SOHO and home networking applications, Freescale offers the MPC8349E mITXe reference board in the 170x170mm mini-ITX form factor. The reference board features the 667MHz MPC8349E processor, a robust memory subsystem, a four-port USB 2.0 interface, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, a 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, a 4-port PCI SATA controller, a 32-bit PCI slot, a 32-bit MiniPCI slot, a two-port RS-232C interface, a power supply and a SATA hard drive.
